Mending of Mothers was established in July 2008 by Dr. Barbara Fivecoat and reinstated in January 2021 under the leadership of Carol Jones with a mission to empower underserved mothers in Greater Sacramento through comprehensive, wrap-around programming that promotes healthy family environments, economic stability, and pathways to sustainable employment and housing.
Our holistic model integrates mental health and wellness support, financial education, parenting instruction, job readiness training, housing navigation, and community-based services to address the interconnected challenges faced by low-income families.
Mending of Mothers primarily serves low-income, single, and unhoused mothers, the majority of whom are women of color who have been historically underserved by traditional systems of care. Our programs are designed with and informed by the lived experiences of participants, ensuring culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and practical support.
By combining direct services with peer support and leadership development, MOMs strengthens individual outcomes while building community capacity. Participants gain the skills, resources, and confidence needed to achieve financial independence, family stability, and long-term self-sufficiency.
